IPB University students successfully won two bronze medals at the 2024 Business Management and Financial Sciences Student Competition (KBMK). The medals were earned in the fields of research and technology commercialization and scientific writing. The awards were presented at Universitas Multimedia Nusantara on Friday (28/6).

KBMK is a competition organized by the Indonesian Talent Development Center (BPTI), the National Achievement Center (Puspresnas), and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek). This competition not only assesses students’ academic abilities and reasoning skills but also aims to foster partnerships between academia, the business world, and the government.

In this competition, the IPB University student delegation in the field of research and technology commercialization presented the EDIPACK innovation. This innovation involves corrugated cardboard that absorbs ethylene for fruit and vegetable storage, using potassium permanganate and activated charcoal for sustainable green economy practices.

“This cardboard can be a solution to extend the shelf life of climacteric fruits, such as bananas and mangoes,” said a representative from the EDIPACK team.

Meanwhile, the scientific writing delegation, Team The Miracles, presented the Eco-card idea. This program converts household food waste by utilizing NFC in small-scale anaerobic digesters as an application of the circular economy concept.

“Our tagline is ‘waste less, live better’. Eco-card can be a solution to save the environment, support the circular economy, and earn money just from disposing of waste,” said Team The Miracles.

Throughout the competition, the two delegations from IPB University competed with six other teams in the grand final. These six teams were recognized for their strong analytical skills and innovations to advance Indonesia’s economy.

“I congratulate all the winners. To me, everyone who made it to this stage is a winner. Winning against oneself by making the decision to achieve, winning against challenging situations, and winning by contributing to the creation of an outstanding educational ecosystem,” said Dr Suharti, Secretary-General of Kemendikbudristek.
