The spirit of art and culture echoed from Cibenda Village Hall, Parigi District, Pangandaran Regency. The festive atmosphere came from a theatre and traditional art performance organised by the Saung Aspirasi Sararea (SARASA) Pangandaran community and collaborating with local youth and students of IPB University’s Innovation Thematic Real Work Lecture (KKNT).

SARASA held a Workshop on Short Filmmaking, Content for Beginners, and Theatre and Performing Arts at Cibenda Village Hall. This activity was also held with the support of the Chief of the Pangandaran Regency Manpower Office, Hj. Tini Nurmasari, S.Sos., M.M.

The workshop featured guest speaker Bramanti F. Nasution as a performance practitioner from Asdrafi Yogyakarta, Tito Pangesthi Adji as Art Director, and Adi Wijaya, S.Sn, M.Sn as Lecturer of Music Creation at Faculty of Performing Arts (FSP) Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta.

During the workshop, the speakers reliably guided the participants, the majority of whom were school children, neighbourhood youth, and university students. The participants were invited to awaken their artistic spirit through short filmmaking, content for beginners, as well as theatre and performing arts.

Instead of discussing a lot of theory, the three speakers chose to teach more practice. “We directly invited the participants to be themselves and develop their competencies, interests and talents as local people. This aims to make them recognise and love their region more,” said Tito Pangesthi Adji.

After three days of training under the guidance of resource persons, the event was closed with a theatre and short film performance. “Unexpectedly, the enthusiasm of the community was so great that it filled the Cibenda Village Hall. Rousing applause accompanied the end of the performance, showing the community’s satisfaction with the performance that had been staged,” said Jauhara Atika Firdaus, KKNT IPB University student.

Jauhara continued, to complement this performance event, Ebeg performance art was also displayed. The involvement of youth, community, and government is expected to instil the spirit of art and culture in the Cibenda Village community. (*/Lp) (IAAS/RUM)
