The Graduate School (SPs) of IPB University held an activity to deliver the results of Indonesian language lectures for international students of the Developing Country Partnership (KNB) scholarship program as well as the handover of international students of the KNB program from SPs IPB University to the study program (Prodi) at Dramaga Campus, IPB University (24/6).

Prof Dodik Ridho Nurrochmat, Dean of SPs IPB University in his speech expressed his gratitude for the delivery of the results of Indonesian language lectures for international students of the Developing Country Partnership (KNB) program.

“Congratulations to the Developing Country Partnership (KNB) program students who will enter lectures in the Study Program. Later some lectures will be conducted in Indonesian, so it is very important that the KNB program students are fluent in Indonesian to follow the studies in the intended study program, “he said.

Meanwhile, Dr Defina, the Indonesian language class coordinator lecturer, said that the Developing Country Partnership (KNB) program students had completed the Indonesian language lectures fluently and had taken the Indonesian Language Proficiency Test (UKBI).

“Indonesian Language Proficiency Test (UKBI) is given to foreign students to measure their ability to speak Indonesian and these results will be a guideline for SPs IPB University to know their level. Based on the law, foreign students studying in Indonesia must at least have level 5 or the title of Semenjana (score 405-481) to be able to attend lectures in Indonesian,” she added.

Dr Defina added that the target of Developing Country Partnership (KNB) program students in this Indonesian Language Proficiency Test (UKBI) exam is to achieve a Semenjana predicate score.  The predicate shows that Indonesian Language Proficiency Test (UKBI) participants are adequate in communicating using Indonesian, both orally and in writing.

“As a result of the Indonesian Language Proficiency Test (UKBI), students of the  Developing Country Partnership (KNB) program get scores with the title of Semenjana and some even get scores with the title of Intermediate (482-577). These results are certainly very good and we hope that the KNB program students can attend lectures in the Study Program smoothly,” he added.

Meanwhile, Fatmasari Siregar, MM, Chairman of Public Relations, Cooperation and New Student Admission (PMB) SPs IPB University said that currently there are 9 students receiving Developing Country Partnership (KNB) scholarships in 2023 at SPs IPB University who come from 8 countries including Rwanda, Uganda, Yemen, Afghanistan, Solomon Islands, Sudan and Syria.

“International students from the Developing Country Partnership (KNB) program in the first year are required to take part in the Indonesian language program as a provision for attending education at SPs IPB University and in the second year an Indonesian cultural traveler program is given,” he added.

He explained that the introduction of Indonesian culture is very important so that they understand the cultures that exist in Indonesia, so that they can become a medium for promoting Indonesian culture in the international realm.

“In addition, it is hoped that international students from the Developing Country Partnership (KNB) program can contribute to positive dynamics and cross-cultural interactions between the Indonesian academic community and international students,” he said. (HBL/Lp) (IAAS/HLF)
