Professor of Fapet IPB University Talks about Mutual Assistance for Maximum Animal Husbandry Development
Professor of the Faculty of Animal Sciences (Fapet) IPB University, Prof Muladno, who was the keynote speaker at the Seminar on Research and Innovation Strategies to Increase the Competitive Advantage of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health Products, talked about the importance of mutual cooperation to maximise the development of animal husbandry in Indonesia.
“Productive mutual cooperation is still difficult, why? The government policy does not support that atmosphere. The government goes its own way, universities go their own way, businesses go their own way, farmers go their own way. The end result is not big and maximum,” he said.
The seminar organised by Yayasan Pengembangan Peternakan Indonesia (YAPPI) in collaboration with the Directorate of Research Technology and Community Service of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) was part of the Indolivestock Research and Innovation Award 2024 held at Maleo Room, Hall A, Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) on 17/7.
Prof Muladno, who is also YAPPI’s advisor, also explained that so far, the most difficult parties to work together are the lowest actors. “Cattle farmers, for example (small-scale in villages), they sell themselves, lead the cows to the market themselves, if they don’t sell, they sell them as quickly as possible so they can go home with money,” he continued.
In this way, he continued, the result is that livestock farming does not develop. “However, if the small ones are worked together, the number becomes thousands, and the results of university research can be maximised”.
“Let’s bring industry, universities, and farmers together. The spirit of YAPPI is to blow up researchers or academics who stand to provide great benefits to small breeders, especially small people and also include farmers, fishermen and planters,” he said.
The seminar, which was attended by dozens of researchers and academics, featured five speakers who presented their research results. One of them was Prof Mohammad Lazuardi who presented material on the broiler category with the research title ‘Chicken and Beef Carcass Rapid Test Device for Excess Water Content and its Manufacturing Process’. The Professor of Universitas Airlangga’s research was motivated by the number of cheating by unscrupulous traders by injecting water into meat which caused losses to consumers.
Another innovator came from Wijaya Kusuma University Surabaya, Dr drh Siti Gusti Ningrum and team with the innovation ‘Seamon Application as Swallow’s Nest Cleaner in the Industrial World’. The first young doctoral graduate from the Master to Doctoral Education for Excellent Scholars (PMDSU) programme said that Seamon is proven to help the swallow’s nest washing industry to produce high-quality products through technology that utilises natural compounds and food grade ingredients.
“We believe Seamon can be widely used by the public because it is easy, cheap and practical,” said the woman who also graduated from IPB University’s Veterinary Professional Education Programme (PPDH) optimistically. (Femmy/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
