IPB Management Lecturers Assist Cibadak Village Youth Organization to Design a Circular Economy-Based Business Model
IPB University lecturers at the Department of Management, Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) in collaboration with PT Bumi Tanpa Sampah Sukabumi and environmental activists carry out community service activities through the Lecturer Mengabdi 2024 Program. This program was implemented in RW 06 Cibadak Village, Ciampea District, Bogor Regency.
One of the activities was education and training related to business model design through waste utilization and processing. The activity was attended by members of the youth organization and a number of people from RW 06 Cibadak Village (29/6).
The activity began with counseling on household waste management delivered by Ir Gelar Satya Budhi, MSc, an alumnus of the Management Department of IPB University as a consultant and environmental activist. This counseling provided in-depth knowledge about waste and its management and utilization.
He also provided education and training on the utilization of inorganic and organic waste with maggot cultivation fostered by Ramdhan Chandra Iswahyudi, Founder of PT Bumi Tanpa Sampah Sukabumi. The community was given complete guidance regarding the utilization of organic waste and maggot cultivation and its business opportunities.
“Besides being beneficial for the environment, maggot cultivation also provides creative economic opportunities for the local community,” said Chandra.
The activity ended with community education and training related to making a business model by Dr Mimin Aminah who is also the chief executive of the activity. This material aims to make people understand how to run a business so that it can develop, especially for this maggot cultivation.
“We educate the community to sort and utilize organic waste as feed media for maggot cultivation so that the results are expected to support the community’s economy,” she said.
Dr Mimin said that the process of waste management and utilization starts from the awareness and willingness of the community itself regarding their concern about the environment. In fact, even waste can become an economic value item if utilized properly.
“The action of public concern for the environment starts from public awareness that needs to be increased in order to sort waste. This can also be a business opportunity by turning the waste into goods that can have economic value to improve the economic circulation of the local community,” said Dr Mimin.
Hasani, a participant and coach of Karang Taruna RW 06 Cibadak Village said, “This activity is very helpful for us. In addition to gaining new knowledge about waste, we also learned to utilize it so that it can be sold.” (*/Rz) (IAAS/EXC)
