Holds Summer Course, SKPM IPB University Addresses the Theme of Effective Communication for Rural and Peri-urban Community Development

The Department of Communication Science and Community Development (SKPM) of IPB University organised a Summer Course with the theme ‘Sustainable Communication and Community Development in Rural and Peri-urban Areas’. This activity took place from 4 to 18 July 2024.

The opening began with remarks from the Chairperson of the Department of SKPM IPB University, Dr Anna Fatchiya, who emphasised the importance of sustainable communication in community development in rural and peri-urban areas.

“It is hoped that through this activity, the participants can develop their abilities in implementing effective sustainable communication to support community development in rural and peri-urban areas,” she said.

Next, remarks were delivered by the Dean of the Faculty of Human Ecology, Dr Sofyan Sjaf, who appreciated this initiative as a strategic step in supporting sustainable development. He hoped that this programme could create productive collaborations.

The event was closed with remarks from the Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria, who expressed his full support for this activity. Prof Arif hopes that this summer course can strengthen the network of cooperation and produce innovations that benefit the community.

The participants of this summer course consisted of various backgrounds, including international participants from Thailand. The speakers who contributed to this activity came from the UK, Malaysia, the Philippines, and the Czech Republic.

For two weeks, the participants participated in a series of activities, such as public lectures, discussions, public speaking workshops, field trips, final project presentations, and a closing ceremony.

Chairperson of the summer course, Dr Annisa Utami Seminar, explained that the programme was designed to give participants the opportunity to learn from experts in the field of communication and community development, as well as to build networks with other participants from various countries.

“We hope this summer course can be a platform for participants to learn, exchange ideas, and collaborate in developing innovative solutions for community development in rural and peri-urban areas,” Dr Annisa said. (*/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
