Greening Ciranggon Village, IPB University KKN-T Students Plant Home Yards
Students of KKN-T IPB University Ciranggon Village, Majalaya District, Karawang Regency, West Java have carried out one of the work programs namely “Ciranggon Asri” which involves the community to plant their yards.
This activity was carried out on 13/7 which took place on a vacant lot in Ciranggon Village. This activity was attended by participants consisting of the village chief, village secretary, family welfare empowerment group (PKK), women farmer group (KWT), and the general public.
The activity began with the presentation of material by Ciranggon Village’s field agricultural extension officer, Asep Suhartono. He talked about the utilization and purpose of yard plants.
Asep said, “Home gardens will be useful as living granaries, living stalls, living pharmacies, living banks, and aesthetics if the land is overgrown with several plants.”
He motivated people to utilize their yards productively. “Agricultural problems, including yard crops, can be submitted through the “IPB Digitani” application from IPB University. Representatives of KKN-T IPB University socialized how to register and the features of the application,” said Asep.
The core activities included hands-on practice of proper planting of yard plants, interspersed with demonstrations from the KKNT IPB University team. The material covered cultivation techniques, pest and disease control, the use of chemical fertilizers, and the use of household waste and organic waste as fertilizer.
Plants that were planted during the practice were bok choy and sunflower, in addition there were seeds distributed to the community who attended this activity. The seeds distributed were tomato, chili, sunflower, and bok choy. The plants will be monitored by the KKNT IPB University group team per week. (IAAS/FAE)
