IPB University’s Innovation Real-Thematic Work Lecture (KKNT) students together with the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team of the Tanjung Awar-Awar Tuban Steam Power Plant (PLTU) successfully implemented the Livestock Forage Planting Movement (Gerak Penak).

The program is intended as a joint effort to increase the availability of local animal feed. The activity took place on forage land, a communal cage located in Wadung Village, Tuban, East Java.

Leader of KKNT Innovation IPB University, Diah Pitaloka Saraswati, said that this collaboration shows the synergy between the academic world and the business world in supporting the local livestock sector.

“Through Gerak Penak, we want to support local farmers by providing quality forage feed. We believe this collaboration will bring great benefits to the sustainability of the livestock sector in Wadung Village,” she said.

Diah explained that the forage planted in the Gerak Penak activity is in the form of browse plants, namely lamtoro and trichanthera. According to her, these two forages were chosen because they are rich in protein and other nutrients that are good for livestock.

The IPB University student continued, the availability of sufficient and quality forage feed is very important for the health and productivity of livestock.

“With the Gerak Penak program, local farmers can reduce feed costs and improve the quality of their livestock. In addition, this program also contributes to environmental sustainability by increasing greenery,” she added.

Meanwhile, Yunan Kurniawan as Senior Manager of PLTU Tanjung Awar-Awar fully supports the activities of KKNT Innovation IPB University students.

“Not everyone knows about communal cages. With this activity, the PLN community can find out and visit the communal cage. In addition, this activity is very good for increasing the availability of local feed that can help farmers,” said Yunan. (*/ra/Rz) (IAAS/FAE)
