Bringing in Professor from Malaysia, Department of Sharia Economic Sciences IPB University Strengthens International Collaboration
The Department of Sharia Economic Sciences (IES) at the Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) of IPB University had the privilege of inviting Prof Rusni Hassan, a professor in Islamic banking and finance from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), one of the leading institutions in Islamic finance.
Prof Rusni Hassan has been recognized as one of the 10 Most Influential Women in Islamic Finance by WOMANi Cambridge since 2019. As the Dean of the IIUM Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance (IIIBF), Prof Rusni Hassan was a special guest for the Department of Sharia Economic Sciences at IPB University in the Visiting Professor program.
This initiative included various academic and collaborative activities designed to facilitate knowledge transfer, expand research networks, and enhance the quality of education at IPB University.
Dr Khalifah Muhammad Ali, Chairman of the Department of Sharia Economic Sciences at IPB University, explained that during Prof Rusni Hassan’s visit, six main activities were organized: public lecture, workshop and scientific writing training, research discussion and collaboration, visits to IPB University facilities, and enhancement of international networks.
Public Lecture and Seminar
The Public Lecture by Prof Datin Dr Rusni Hassan is scheduled for Monday, July 24, 2024. She is expected to deliver a public lecture and seminar discussing topics related to Sustainability in Islamic Banking and Finance, which are currently developing. This event is open to students, lecturers, and researchers at IPB University, as well as partner institutions of the Department of Sharia Economic Sciences.
Workshop and Scientific Writing Training
Dr Khalifah stated that this workshop is organized to deepen participants’ understanding of research methodologies in Sharia economics and Islamic law. This session will focus on developing practical and applicable skills.
“Motivating a spirit of writing is also a key point in this activity to produce excellent and high-integrity researchers in the field of Sharia economics,” he added.
Research Discussion and Collaboration
A discussion meeting will be held between Prof Rusni Hassan and lecturers and researchers at the Department of Sharia Economic Sciences and the Center for Islamic Business and Economic Studies (CIBEST) at IPB University to explore research collaboration opportunities.
Dr Khalifah remarked, “This discussion is expected to result in joint research plans and the writing of scientific publications.”
Curriculum Development
Professor Rusni Hassan also participated in curriculum development discussions with the Department of Sharia Economic Sciences at IPB University. The aim of this activity is to enhance the relevance and quality of the curriculum offered, particularly in Sharia economics.
Visits to IPB Facilities
Prof Rusni Hassan visited various facilities at IPB University to understand the available infrastructure and capabilities. These visits included the IPB Future Museum and Gallery, Agribusiness and Technology Park (ATP), Botani Square Mall, and the office of the Business, Investment, Endowment, and Waqf Management Agency (BP Biswaf) at IPB University.
Dr Khalifah mentioned that this visit is expected to facilitate the introduction and branding of existing facilities to showcase the business ecosystem owned by IPB University.
Enhancing International Networks
Through the various activities held, international collaboration networks between IPB University and IIUM have been strengthened. This cooperation was signed by the Dean of FEM IPB University, Dr Irfan Syauqi Beik, and the Dean of IIBF IIUM, Prof Datin Dr Rusni Hassan.
In addition to sharing experiences in managing international educational institutions, she also explored the Cash Waqf Linked Sukuk managed by IPB University. “It’s so impressive!” she remarked during her visit to the BP Biswaf office at IPB University.
Through this Visiting Professor program, Dr Khalifah hopes that the Department of Sharia Economic Sciences at IPB University can enhance international collaboration by increasing global connectivity. (*/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
