Animal Feed Innovation, IPB University Innovation KKNT Team Demonstrates Silage Making in Bangsri Village

The IPB University Innovation Real-Thematic Work Lecture (KKNT) Student Team successfully carried out a demonstration of silage animal feed making in Bangsri Village, Brebes Regency, Central Java. The activity took place at the residence of the Head of the Bangsri Village Fisheries, Livestock and Agriculture Group Association.

Silage is a fermented high water content feed given to ruminant animals. Silage is generally made from grasses, including corn. Silage allows farmers to provide quality forage feed, regardless of dry summers or cold winters.

“By using silage techniques, farmers can reduce plant forage waste, because forage that cannot be consumed immediately can be converted into products that can be stored and used in the future,” said Christo Glory, the Coordinator of KKNT Innovation Bangsari Village.

Shasy Kirani Rizal, a student representative of IPB University said that the group of breeders and farmers were very enthusiastic in listening to the explanation and demonstration of silage making. 

“The activity took place interactively and two-way communication also went well. The smoothness of this silage making event is also based on the fact that there has never been silage making in Bangsri Village. That is why the groups of breeders and farmers are very enthusiastic,” said Shasy.

“Alhamdulillah, this activity was welcomed by the local farmers and the discussion was active. Hopefully what has been delivered will be of sustainable benefit to the farmers,” said Sudiyanto, Chief of the Bangsri Village Fisheries, Livestock and Agriculture Group Association.

The silage-making activity was closed with the formation of a new livestock group for Bangsri Village. The group was formed to focus on activities related to the livestock business in Bangsri Village. (Lp/Rz) (IAAS/NYS).
