All Futuristic, Himiteka IPB University Visits the Advanced Marine Research Ship that is Docked in Jakarta
IPB University’s Marine Science and Technology Student Association (Himiteka) had the rare opportunity to visit the OceanXplorer which was docked at Tanjung Priok Port on 11/7.
OceanXplorer is the world’s most advanced media research, exploration, and production vessel operated by OceanX, a global ocean exploration non-profit organization. The visit was attended by 10 students and welcomed by Science Program Associate, Kailani Acosta Ph.D.
The Himiteka Chairperson said that the docking of the OceanXplore ship in Jakarta is an extraordinary opportunity because it is important for students to keep up with technological and research developments.
“We are very enthusiastic because this visit is a precious experience to get to know a research ship that is equipped with various cutting-edge technologies for deep sea exploration,” said Hazel, Himiteka Chairperson.
Kailani Ph.D led the tour of two submarines, Nadir and Neptune. “These submarines can reach 1000 meters below sea level, take research objects with their arms and cameras in real-time can show deep sea conditions to the internet,” he said.
IPB University students were also invited to the wet laboratory, dry laboratory, underwater robot (ROV) control center, sonar control room, and bridge research vessel control center.
Valarie Warner, Science and Information Technology Officer said that during the expedition, Indonesia had a lot of interesting species. “It’s important for the general public to be able to learn about interesting things in science to increase curiosity and exploration of the vast and deep sea,” she explained.
In collaboration with Kemenkomarves, Secretary of Deputy 2 for Maritime Resource Coordination Dr Aniza Puspita supported Himiteka IPB University’s visitation to the OceanX research vessel. “It is the duty of Kemenkomarves to facilitate the younger generation to learn more,” she added.
