The Directorate of Agro Maritime Community Development (DPMA) in collaboration with the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences (IKK) IPB University held the third meeting of the Quality Family School (SKB) in Babakan Village.

The speaker at this third meeting was Prof Euis Sunarti, Lecturer at the IKK Department IPB University with material on the importance of family resilience. She stated that the current condition of the family is characterized by a decrease in family functions, a decrease in supervision and protection of family members, sub-optimal parenting, and a decrease in the cultivation of values and character.

“Family resilience is important to be formed because family life is constantly changing and dynamic, one of which is the presence of technology and changes in communication and interaction patterns,” explained Prof Euis.

Prof Euis explained that there are three efforts to improve family resilience, namely improving the physical, social, and psychological resilience of the family. Physical resilience is achieved through improving the quality of family human resources (HR) through education and learning opportunities and increasing family income such as by having more than one family member working.

“In managing the family economy, the basic principle is how we can increase savings and reduce unnecessary expenses,” she said.

She continued, social and psychological resilience can be achieved through the socialization of values and character in family members. “This resilience is achieved when family members are value-oriented, communicate effectively, are highly committed, foster social relationships, and family members have a good self-concept and emotional control,” she said.

“Through today’s meeting, participants are expected to know the importance of family resilience and how efforts can be made to achieve family resilience,” said Prof Euis. (*/Lp) (IAAS/FAE)
