IPB University’s Quality Family School Discusses the Application of Nurture, Care, and Nurturing for Healthy Under-5 Children
The Directorate of Agromaritime Community Development (DPMA) of IPB University in collaboration with the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences (IKK) of IPB University organised a Quality Family School activity at Balai Posyandu Cempaka, Situ Gede Village, Bogor on 19/6.
The event was themed “Application of Asah, Asih, Asuh in the Family to Develop Healthy Under-five Children” and was attended by 30 mothers from surrounding villages.
The event was opened by the Resident of Situ Gede Village, H. Napihudin, S.Pd., M.Si. He said, “We are very grateful to IPB University for organising the Quality Family School activities that help mothers from Cempaka Village, especially mothers who have under-five children,” he said.
This activity presented a resource person, Dr Dwi Hastuti as a Lecturer at the Department of IKK IPB University. She explained the importance of the concept of Asah, Asih, Asuh in developing children’s intellectual potential, affection, and physical and emotional health.
“Consistent application of this parenting pattern can optimise children’s cognitive, emotional and social development and prevent physical and mental health problems,” said Dr Dwi.
During the discussion, Dr Dwi emphasised the importance of balanced nutrition, stimulation of motor and sensory development, and consistent affection to foster healthy under-fives.
One of the participants, Siti Amelia, said, “The Quality Family School activity is very good to be carried out because from this activity there is a lot of knowledge that was never known before, but it is conveyed very clearly and accompanied by solutions to problems that occur,” she said.
The event ended with an interactive question and answer session. Dr Dwi concluded that the role of family and environment in supporting children’s development is important to encourage mothers to continue learning and applying positive parenting. (*/Lp) (IAAS/RUM)
