IPB University Students Ready to Join MSIB Jelajah Hutan Masa Depan Social Forestry Programme
IPB University students attended the Socialisation of the Social Forestry Mapan (Jelajah Hutan Masa Depan) Internship Programme. The socialisation took place at Pertamina Sylva Auditorium, Faculty of Forestry and Environment (Fahutan), IPB Dramaga Campus.
Jalan Mapan Social Forestry is one of the Internship and Certified Independent Study (MSIB) programmes offered by the Directorate of Environmental Partnership, Directorate General of Social Forestry and Environmental Partnership (PSKL), Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK).
In the socialisation, Dra Desi Florita Syahril, Coordinator of MSIB Social Forestry explained that the programme is an effort to introduce students to the importance of forest conservation and community empowerment. Forests are considered a gift from God that must be preserved for future generations.
“This programme not only aims to raise students’ awareness of the importance of forest conservation, but also provide them with hands-on experience in supporting local community empowerment through internship activities,” she said.
Meanwhile, Dra Jo Kumala Dewi, MSc, Director of Environmental Partnership at MoEF, said that the internship programme will involve 1,000 students (400 from forestry faculties and the remaining 600 from non-forestry faculties).
Later, they will be placed in social forestry locations spread across 19 provinces in Indonesia. The participants will be placed in various regions in Indonesia to learn about forest sustainability, identify environmental potential, and facilitate local business development.
Chairman of the Department of Forest Management at IPB University, Dr Soni Trison, said the internship programme also covers aspects of capacity building, including technical and non-technical learning, as well as preparation to face challenges in the field.
“Thus, through this programme, it is expected that the participants can integrate the knowledge gained from campus with direct experience in supporting forest sustainability and the welfare of local communities,” he added. (*/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
