IPB University Lecturers Provide RAS Technology Education for Pilot Vocational School Teachers Throughout Indonesia
Two lecturers of IPB University from the Department of Aquaculture (BDP), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK), Wildan Nurussalam, SPi, MSi and Fajar Maulana, SPi, MSi had the opportunity to become master trainers (MT) to give lectures in Consortium-Based Scientific Forum activities: Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) Technology.
The activity is part of the implementation of the Orange Knowledge Program research consortium, Tailored Made Training (OKP TMT+), which is a concrete form of cooperation between the Indonesian government and the Netherlands in supporting vocational education in Indonesia, especially the SMK Pusat Keunggulan (SMK PK) program in the field of agriculture in a broad sense.
Currently, the OKP TMT+ cooperation program has entered the second stage, namely improving the competence of pilot SMK teachers from all over Indonesia represented by SMKN 1 Karang Tengah Cianjur, West Java; SMKN 1 Wadaslintang Wonosobo, Central Java; SMKN 8 Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan; and SMKN 1 Tulang Bawang Tengah, Lampung.
During college, the two IPB University lecturers explained about biosecurity, water quality, RAS principles, feed management and fish growth in the RAS system. It was also shown that the ‘RAS Do it Yourself’ (RAS DIY) system by IPB University students which fuelled the enthusiasm of the participants.
“This DIY RAS is designed by utilising various used goods, so that it can minimise the cost of building the system. Moreover, the functionality can still be maximised even though it uses used goods,” said Fajar Maulana.
He added, “The DIY RAS that is built can be customised to the needs of each location and region. We also exemplify modifications made by IPB University students in various locations of Innovation Real-Thematic Work Lecture throughout Indonesia.”
Furthermore, participants get the opportunity to practice directly at the Vocational Education Quality Assurance Development Centre (BBPPMPV) of Cianjur Agriculture which took place on 24-27/6. (*/Rz) (IAAS/IAN)
