IPB University Leaders Visit National University of Singapore, Learn Research and Innovation Management

Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria led the visit of IPB University leaders to the National University of Singapore (NUS) on Friday (7/6). NUS is currently ranked 8th in the QS World University Ranking. Therefore, the leadership of IPB University feels the need to learn about university management, including research and innovation management.

“We want to learn how NUS conducts education reform, research development to the development of innovation and business networks,” said Prof Arif Satria.

NUS President, Prof Tan Eng Chye, on the other hand, expressed the desire to learn more from IPB University. He is interested in collaborating with IPB University regarding research in agriculture and forestry. This is because IPB University is the best university in Southeast Asia in the field of agriculture and forestry.

After the main meeting, there was also a follow-up meeting in the form of small discussions based on special topics. The discussion was conducted by the deans and chairpersons of international research institutes of IPB University together with the leaders of a number of faculties and research centers of NUS.

The topics discussed included tropical marine science, blue carbon, forests and carbon, climate change, mega cities, optical physics, biotechnology, laboratory animal facilities and start-ups, entrepreneurship. From this discussion, a number of agreements were made to jointly organize a number of workshops and research collaborations between IPB University and NUS Research Center.

On this occasion, a number of IPB University leaders visited the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore. The delegation was received directly by the Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore, Suryopratomo. In his remarks, Ambassador Suryopratomo who is an alumnus of IPB University expressed his hope that IPB University could work more closely and contribute more to research with universities in Singapore.

This working visit opportunity was attended by vice-rectors, institute secretaries, deans, chairman of international research institutes and chairman of agencies. This visit provides inspiration for the development and progress of IPB University in the future. (*/Rz) (IAAS/Hap)
