IPB University Landscape Architecture (ARL) Students Showcase Thematic Vertical Garden and Water Garden Design Work
IPB University’s Landscape Architecture (ARL) students exhibited vertical garden and water garden designs at the Design Studio of the Department of Landscape Architecture, Faculty of Agriculture, IPB University, (10/6). This work is an individual final project for students who take the Thematic Garden Design course.
“This course is an option for sixth semester students who want to deepen landscape design. In the learning process, we are supported by teaching practitioners from the industrial world. These practitioners provide case studies to students, which this time is the concept of vertical garden and water garden design,” said Chairman of the Landscape Architecture (ARL) Department of IPB University, Dr Akhmad Arifin Hadi.
Dr Akhmad Arifin Hadi said, the design concepts of vertical garden and water garden are among those needed in the industrial world. The ways of designing also apply what is done by practitioners. Thus, this work becomes the students’ capital in the world of work.
“Student creativity in general, thank God, is good. In fact, I am surprised that the results are extraordinary. This is the result of their originality. One of the objectives of this course is responsible design. Alhamdulillah, they can account for their designs through this poster exhibition in a communicative manner,” Dr Akhmad Arifin Hadi said.
One of the teaching practitioners, Dedy Guswandi, SP, MM, IALI, from PT Sheils Flynn Asia explained that the concept of vertical garden design made by students this time focused on buildings. The students made a vertical garden design from an existing building.
As a practitioner, Dedy Guswandi was amazed by the new ideas that emerged from the students’ creations. He hopes that after completing the Thematic Garden Design course, students will have a better understanding of vertical gardens and water gardens.
“In the future, they will have more understanding than those who did not take this course. Vertical gardens and water gardens are small parts of landscape architecture. The application of these two aspects can be in commercial, residential, office, or even park areas,” said Dedy Guswandi.
Fathiah Zahrani Zulmi, one of the students, shared her design. She made a vertical garden design at Eka Hospital that gives the impression of a modern-classic nuance while still giving off a natural impression. The concept of this vertical garden design is inspired by butterflies.
“With a vertical garden in a building, it will not only be a dancing aesthetic element, but also provide significant ecological and functional benefits, such as improved air quality, temperature control, noise reduction, and relaxation,” she said.
Another student, Audi Rahman Alfadhli, created a water garden design for Pagaruyung Water Park. His design presents a calming natural experience before dining. “By combining geometric and organic patterns, this garden creates a harmonious atmosphere, inviting visitors to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature before enjoying a meal,” said Audi Rahman Alfadhli.
