The Forest Management Study Programme, Department of Forest Management, IPB University held a public lecture through the Watershed Management course which raised the topic ‘Indonesia’s Atmospheric Dynamics and Hydrometeorological Disasters’. The event took place on Friday, 31/5.

Dr Hendrayanto, lecturer of the Department of Forest Management of IPB in his speech expressed the hope that students can make use of the knowledge gained from this public lecture to contribute to better environmental management efforts.

“Collaboration is important between academics, researchers and practitioners in facing the challenges of climate change and natural disasters in Indonesia,” he said.

This public lecture presented a special guest, Dr Wendi Harjupa, an Associate Expert Researcher from ORKM-BRIN’s Centre for Atmospheric Climate Research (PRIMA). Dr Wendi delivered some important material related to topics that are very relevant to the challenges of watershed management in Indonesia.

“Accurate and systematic observations are crucial for predicting and managing the risk of hydrometeorological disasters such as floods and landslides. With a better understanding of atmospheric dynamics, watershed managers can take proactive measures to reduce the negative impacts of natural disasters on society and the environment,’ said Dr Wendi.

The public lecture was attended by students, lecturers and practitioners interested in forest management and watershed management. The participants gained new insights into the relationship between atmospheric dynamics and hydrometeorological disaster events, as well as the importance of climate science integration in natural resource management.
