IPB University Collaborates with Oxford University on Shark and Ray Management

IPB University has again strengthened collaboration with the world’s top universities through research collaboration on small-scale fisheries management of sharks and rays in Indonesia with the Social-Ecological System (SES) approach by collaborating with Oxford University UK. This research collaboration is funded by the Darwin Initiative UK for three years 2023-2026 which is co-led by Prof Luky Adrianto, Professor of the Department of Aquatic Resources Management (MSP), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) IPB University and Senior Researcher at the Center for Coastal and Marine Resources Studies (PKSPL) IPB University as well as Chief of the International Research Institute (LRI) Maritime Affairs, Marine and Fisheries IPB University, Prof Katrina Davis and Dr Hollie Both from Oxford University. This research involved four doctoral students (S3) of the Coastal and Marine Resource Management Study Program (SPL), MSP Department, FPIK IPB University.

One of the important activities in the collaboration is Student Exchanges at Oxford University which aims to increase the capacity of analysis and scientific writing held for 2 weeks (June 15-30, 2024).

To strengthen the cooperation and implementation of the research, the Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria visited Oxford University on June 19-21, 2024. During the visit, Prof Arif Satria and Prof Tim Houlson from Oxford University agreed to strengthen cooperation between universities, especially in the field of marine, coastal, and fisheries. Collaboration was built with the Oxford University Department of Geography and Environment represented by Dr Mari Mulyani.

In a conversation with Prof Tim Houlson, Dr Katrina Davis and Dr Mari Mulyani, the Rector of IPB University conveyed the vision and mission of global connectivity of IPB University which was associated with increasing the research capacity of lecturers and students in the field of natural resource management and the environment in general and especially in the field of coastal, marine and fisheries management.

During his visit to Oxford University, Prof Arif Satria also developed cooperation with the Natural History Museum to strengthen the development planning of the Conservation Museum IPB University. (IAAS/FAE)
