Increasing Professionalism, SVMBS IPB University Holds Training for Animal Ethics Commission Members
IPB University’s School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (SVMBS) held Competency Training and Certification for Laboratory Animal Practitioner Veterinarians on 10/6. The activity was attended by lecturers who are already members of the animal ethics commission with the aim of increasing the professionalism of lecturers related to laboratory animal ethics.
“Even though this training is short, it is needed to equip lecturers about laboratory animal ethics. “Hopefully in the future all of us at the ethics commission can provide benefits and help researchers in submitting animal ethics,” said Prof Arief Boediono as chairman of the SVMBS IPB University Animal Ethics Commission.
This activity presented three speakers, namely, Dr Ligaya ITA Tumbelaka with material on the use of animal species in research (wild and exotic); Dr Huda Shalahudin Darusman with material on the use of animal species in research (primates); Drh Tri Isyani Tungga Dewi, MSi with material on the study of filling out and assessing ethical clearance in research proposals that use animals.”
The external speakers who were present at this activity were Drh Beni Halalludin, Head of the Central Laboratory & Disease Research Center Division – PT Central Proteina Prima with material on the use of animal species in (fish) research.
In the final session, the participants held a discussion about a simulation of validating the submission of ethics forms sent by researchers. The discussion session was divided based on the three types of experimental animal groups used in the research, namely goats, mice and dogs/cats. (AP) (IAAS/ASD)
