Paguyuban Pensiun Pegawai IPB University (P3IPB) held a free health check for its members. The activity took place at the P3IPB Secretariat, Palem Street Number 4, Lecturer Housing (Perumdos), IPB Dramaga Campus (1/6). 110 P3IPB members enthusiastically participated in this activity.

The health checks offered include basic health checks (blood pressure, heart rate, cholesterol, blood sugar, and uric acid), eye and ear examinations, anthropometric nutritional status checks (including weight, height, body mass index (BMI), body fat percentage, muscle percentage, abdominal fat, and metabolic age) and medical consultations.

“Health is one of the most important factors in life. No matter how much wealth we have, we cannot enjoy it if we are unhealthy. As we age, our organs will experience a decline in function, so an elderly person generally has various complaints related to degenerative diseases,’ said Etty Eidman, Chairperson of P3IPB.

Therefore, he continued, it is important for an elderly person to have regular health checks, so that they know their health status and can prevent disease early.

Etty explained, this activity was held in collaboration with the Unit of the Center for Family Welfare Services (PPKS) Agrianita IPB University. The Department of Community Nutrition, Faculty of Human Ecology of IPB University also lent anthropometric nutritional status measuring tools along with students who operated the equipment, and continued with nutrition consultation. This activity was also supported by Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) and BSI Maslahat.

Health check participants can choose the type of check they want, they do not have to do all the health checks. In fact, says Etty, there are more P3IPB members who would like to take advantage of this health check. But they are constrained by various limitations they face. They are aware that the elderly need regular health checks to prevent more serious illnesses.

“Healthy elderly will make them empowered for themselves, or their families, maybe even the surrounding community. Thus, the elderly have a dignified life,’ said Etty, while hoping that P3IPB will be able to continue to hold free health checks regularly and that more P3IPB members can take advantage of the health services.
