Faculty of Animal Sciences (Fapet) IPB University holds a Certification of Safety, Occupational Health and Environment (K3L) for educational personnel (indict) educational laboratory institutions (PLP) and lecturers. The activity took place in the Fapet Session Room, IPB Dramaga Campus (19/6).

This training and competence/certification was held in collaboration with the Directorate of Human Resources (HR), Faculty of Animal Sciences, and the Professional Certification Institute (LSP) of the Indonesian Testing Laboratory (Telapi) and the Indonesian Lichem Centre. Later, the participants who graduate will be certified by the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP).

Vice Dean of Faculty of Animal Sciences (Fapet) IPB University for Resources, Cooperation and Development, Dr Sri Suharti explained, certification activities are one of the efforts to improve the competence of lecturer and tender staff. According to her, the field of K3L is closely related to improving work safety, especially in the laboratory, so strengthening the competence in the field of K3L is very necessary.

“This certification activity can be carried out on financing facilities from IPB University Human Resources in order to improve the main performance indicators (IKU) of universities. And for lecturers, it is targeted that all of them have competency certification,” he continued.

Sulistiowati, SSi, MPd, Assessor from LSP Telapi is present to provide material with the theme “K3 Laboratory Towards Healthy, Happy, Professional and Quality Laboratory Workers While Working”. The materials provided include the basics and application of laboratory K3, occupational accident risk factors, identification/HIRADC, and hazard identification techniques. It is also discussed hazard risk assessment, hazard chemical management, B3 risk control hierarchy, occupational health equipment and chemical handling techniques.

One of the participants, Tatang Supriatna, SPt, PLP who served in the Dairy Livestock Division and the Dairy Field Laboratory, the Department of Production Science and Livestock Technology (IPTP) admitted that the presentation conveyed was quite clear. He was also satisfied with what was conveyed.

“The K3 activities in the lab are very helpful in the field of security, daily activities in serving activities on campus, in the field, as well as in the analysis test lab,” he said.

Meanwhile, PLP from the Feed Science and Technology Laboratory, Department of Nutrition Science and Feed Technology (INTP), Eneh Maesaroh, SSi took the K3L certification for the extension of the previous certification. According to her, this activity is very important because every day, PLP is related to chemicals and instruments that can cause danger.

“If we cannot master according to the procedure, one day it can endanger us. For example, there are dangerous chemicals whose properties and specifications are corrosive and some are explosive and others,” she explained.
