The dissemination of this technology is part of the Pulang Kampung Lecturer Program (Dospulkam) initiated by the Directorate of Agromaritime Community Development (DPMA) IPB University.

The socialisation activity aims to increase the knowledge and skills of farmers through the transfer of technology and innovation carried out in Pangumbahan Village. By collaborating with local farmers, IPB University tries to increase rice productivity through the application of the latest technology and the use of superior rice varieties developed by researchers. This effort is carried out in order to support Pangumbahan Village as one of the rice barn areas.

Dr Ahmad Junaedi, Lecturer at IPB University’s Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, explained that the introduced rice varieties have several advantages. “This IPB rice variety is resistant to pests and diseases, and has a higher productivity compared to local varieties. In addition, this variety is also more adaptive to increasingly erratic climate change,” he said.

He continued, with the dissemination of IPB variety rice technology, Pangumbahan Village is expected to be a successful example in the application of modern agricultural technology in Sukabumi Regency.

Pangumbahan Village President, Mulyana, welcomed the socialisation carried out “We are very grateful to IPB University for the support and knowledge given to the farmers in our village. With this new technology and rice varieties, we hope to increase crop yields and the welfare of the village community,” said Mulyana.

Meanwhile, Miftahul Jannah, Coordinator of the Agricultural Extension Centre (BPP) of Ciracap District explained that, BPP has a strategic role and function, especially in an effort to assist farmers in implementing cultivation to harvesting technology, so that he is ready to support the Pulang Kampung Lecturer Program (Dospulkam) program in Pangumbahan Village.

Through this activity, farmers get the opportunity to discuss related to the problems that are being faced during the rice cultivation process.

Ruswandi, Chairman of the Joint Farmer Group (Gapoktan) Sabilulungan explained that, the implementation of the IPB 3S and IPB 9G rice variety trials is facing various challenges, including related to uncertain climate factors and limited water availability. He hopes that in the future there will be a need for further study in the development of rice commodities in Pangumbahan Village.

The cooperation between IPB University and Pangumbahan Village is expected not only to stop at the dissemination of this technology. In the future, IPB University plans to continue to accompany farmers in the planting process until post-harvest, as well as help market their agricultural products. (*/Lp) (IAAS/IAN)
