President of BSIP Plantation Centre Teaches Refreshing Plant Commodity Business to IPB University Students
Chairman of Plantation Standardisation Centre, Agricultural Instrument Standardisation Agency (BSIP) Ministry of Agriculture, Ir Syafaruddin, Ph.D became a guest practitioner teaching at the Refreshing Plant Course (MK) in the Agronomy and Horticulture (AGH) study program, Faculty of Agriculture IPB University on Wednesday, 29 /5.
The Refreshing Plant course is designed to equip participants with a comprehensive understanding of specific plant commodities used in the production of popular beverages with refreshing properties. This goes beyond just basic knowledge. The course aims to cultivate a deep understanding of these plants, encompassing not only their biological characteristics and cultivation requirements, but also the industrial processes involved in bringing them from field to cup.Specifically, the curriculum focuses on coffee, cocoa, and tea, providing participants with a well-rounded picture of these economically important crops.
“The Refreshing Plant Course certainly has a very strong relevance with the aim of forming graduates with the competence to become a techno-socio-entrepreneurial university,” explained Dr Ahmad Junaedi, coordinator of the Refreshing Plant course.
“This course provides an opportunity for students to explore good refreshing commodities to become the foundation of knowledge that is relevant to the final project (script) and mainly encourages graduates to become techno-socio-entrepreneurs by developing refreshing plant commodities,” added Dr Junaedi.
During the teaching practitioner activity, Ir Syafarudin’s contribution took the form of a captivating overview exploring the exciting world of refreshing commodities, encompassing both on-farm and off-farm aspects. His presentation wasn’t just informative, it sparked curiosity and ignited discussions. Ir Syafarudin’s expertise was further demonstrated during the student presentations on “Commodity Business Profile.” He actively participated in the analysis and discussion sessions, providing valuable insights and constructive feedback that no doubt enriched the learning experience for both the students and his fellow participants.
“Sharing practical experience in the plantation industry and standardisation of agricultural instruments to the Agronomy and Horticulture (AGH) students is very challenging, because when students graduate and enter the reality of the world of work and business industries, they are required to understand not only the core competency in agronomy and horticulture but also the complexity of business management of their commodities,” said sir Deden, his nickname.
He explained the reason for his willingness to strengthen this course. “Hopefully the sharing session in this course can inspire students to be more optimistic about looking at plantation plant freshener commodities in Indonesia. We also welcome IPB University students who want to utilise BSIP facilities for Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) activities, internships and final project research,” concluded Deden.
