LRI i-MAR IPB University Invites Delegation from INOS-Universiti Malaysia Terengganu to Strengthen Research Collaboration
Institute for International Research on Ocean, Maritime, and Fisheries IPB University held a Guest Lecture and Collaborative Meeting. This activity brought a delegation from the Institute of Oceanography and Environment (INOS), Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT).
This activity is a cross-institutional collaboration between INOS-UMT Malaysia together with the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) and the Center for Coastal and Marine Resources Studies (PKSPL) IPB University. UMT delegates who attended were Prof Ts Mohd Fadzil Bin Mohd Akhir (Director of INOS) and Prof Wan Izatul Asma Binti Wan Talaat (Head of Center for Ocean Governance INOS).
“Cooperation with UMT began in 2018/2019 through joint workshop activities between FPIK IPB University and the Faculty of Food and Fisheries UMT. Then continued with academic cooperation in the field of ocean governance with INOS-UMT,” said the Chief of i-MAR IPB University, Prof Luky Adrianto.
Dean of FPIK IPB University, Prof Fredinan Yulianda when opening the event expressed his appreciation for the implementation of this activity. The purpose of this activity is to formulate academic and research cooperation in the field of marine and fisheries and the implementation process from the experts who have attended. “We hope this discussion can be followed up between IPB University and UMT,” he said.
Prof Hefni Effendi, Chairman of the MSP Department of IPB University added, the theme of this activity will be very useful because it discusses how science will influence more policies in the field of sustainable marine governance. “With this activity, students can understand and learn the knowledge that has been delivered by the speakers,” he added.
Meanwhile, Prof Yonvitner as Chairman of PKSPL IPB University in his closing remarks explained interesting issues related to current marine policy. This activity is expected to contribute to IPB University.
“The purpose of holding this activity, in addition to collaboration, is also so that students continue to learn and can take experience with the information that has been conveyed by the speakers,” he added.
The activity continued with a Collaborative Meeting led by Prof Luky Adrianto and attended by the chairman of the department in FPIK IPB University, representatives from Enhancing Marine Biodiversity Research in Indonesia (EMBRIO) FPIK and Dr Sebastian Ferse, DAAD Long Term Lecturer at FPIK IPB University.
The agenda discussed was the follow-up of academic and research cooperation that has been initiated since 2020 and plans to organize a long term workshop with the theme of Marine Biodiversity which is part of a long-term collaboration between IPB University and UMT.
In addition to the two guest lecturers, INOS UMT young researchers were also present, namely Dr Abdul Rahman; Dr Kustiariyah Tarman, Secretary of i-MAR; Dr Mukhlis Kamal, MSP Lecturer; and Prof Agus Soleh Atmadipoera, Professor of FPIK. (DY/Rz) (IAAS/PRP)
