IPB University Vocational School Achieves Bronze Medal in ISTEC 2024 International Research Competition in Bali
The Vocational School of IPB University once again recorded a brilliant achievement in the field of international research competition. This time, students who are members of the GreenGen group under the guidance of Ir Fahrizal Hazra, MSc, successfully won the Bronze Medal at the International Science Technology Engineering Competition (ISTEC) 2024.
In the competition that took place at Hotel Infinity8, Bali (2-5/5), the Vocational School students managed to bring home a bronze medal (third place) in the Technical and Engineering category in the Biotechnology subcategory.
The GreenGen group, which represented IPB University Vocational School, introduced an innovation entitled “Utilising Anabaena as a Biological Carbon Capture to Accelerate the 13th SDGs Goal”. The team consisted of Naufal Raka Putra Nur Rachman (Team Leader), Sarah Benazir, Jo-Anne St Claire, Firdan Ihsanul In’am, and Rafli Hidayat.
The leader of the GreenGen team, Naufal Raka Putra Nur Rachman, shared his experience of the competition. “This is our first competition since we started our education,” said Naufal.
The highly competitive atmosphere of the competition, with teams from various countries in attendance, gave the GreenGen group valuable experience. Naufal also emphasised how important this experience was for their group.
“The competitive atmosphere and interaction with international teams such as Malaysia, the Philippines, South Africa and the United States, provided new insights and a deep understanding of international standards in research and technology,” said Naufal.
Furthermore, he recognised that this achievement was not only the result of individual efforts, but also close teamwork. “This achievement is proof of hard work together in achieving the same goal,” said Naufal.
He also expressed his gratitude to his supervisors and IPB Vocational School for their support. “Thank you to all those who have supported us all this time, especially to our supervisors and IPB Vocational School. We are proud to be able to represent IPB University Vocational School at ISTEC 2024,” he concluded.
Dean of IPB University Vocational School, Dr Aceng Hidayat expressed his appreciation for the achievement made by the GreenGen group. He hoped that this achievement would continue to motivate IPB University Vocational School students to continue to compete on an international scale.
“This achievement shows the dedication and competence of IPB University Vocational School students in facing challenges in the international arena, especially in the field of research and technology. Congratulations to the GreenGen group,” said Dr Aceng.
The achievements at ISTEC 2024 have proven the commitment of IPB University Vocational School in supporting the development of science and technology and preparing Indonesia’s young generation to compete at the global level. This international research competition and exhibition aims to increase students’ interest in science and research in Indonesia and is also expected to increase students’ competitiveness in the international arena.
In its fifth year, ISTEC received registrations from 794 teams from 11 countries, including Malaysia, Thailand, the United States, the Philippines, South Africa, Egypt, Bosnia and Herzegovina, India, Vietnam, Palestine and Indonesia. (ASW/Rz). (IAAS/RUM)
