Fapet IPB University Hosts Meeting of Leaders of Higher Education of Animal Science in Indonesia
Faculty of Animal Science (Fapet) IPB University hosted the Workshop on Standardization of Profiles of Bachelor of Animal Science, organized by the Forum of Leaders of Indonesian Higher Education in Animal Science (FPPTPI).
The event took place on (4/5) at the Science and Technology Area Institute (LKST), IPB Taman Kencana Campus. A total of 85 participants from 42 universities, both public and private, attended this event.
Dean of Fapet IPB University, Dr Idat Galih Permana, in his speech, emphasized the importance of preparing the profile of graduates in accordance with industry needs. “The preparation of graduate profiles is very important because this is a reference for the acceptance of graduates in the industry,” he said.
“We need to evaluate whether the learning process in our faculties has met the needs of the industry, or has deviated. This graduate profile is the key to how our graduates are accepted in the world of work,” he added.
FPPTPI Secretary General and Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science at Gajah Mada University, Prof Budi Guntoro, explained that this workshop was part of a series of working meetings. “Currently, there are more than 110 livestock study programs with various curricula,” he said.
Prof Budi added that the profile of animal Science graduates is not only intended for industry, but also includes academic fields and other professions. “Our graduates work in various sectors such as industry, entrepreneurship, academia, and even government. This is the variety of profiles of our graduates,” he explained.
The event was also attended by Prof Erika Budiarti Laconi, Chairperson of LKST IPB University as well as Professor of Fapet. “I am confident that the Faculty of Animal Science will continue to exist, because the need for animal protein in Indonesia and the world is still very high,” she said.
Prof Erika also revealed that almost 60 percent of students want to become entrepreneurs and collaboration between Fapet and other faculties can produce proud products. (FD/Lp)
