This is How the ESL Department of IPB University Approaches High School Students throughout Indonesia
The Department of Resource and Environmental Economics (ESL) of the Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) IPB University held a Webinar on 30/3 online, this activity is one way to approach students in Indonesia.
The webinar with the theme “Get Closer to ESL, The Rise of Green Economy in Indonesia: Unlocking the Future Green Job With ESL” presented speakers from alumni including Semi Kurniasih class 50, Trifty Qurrota Aini class 44, Larasati Aliffia S Widyaputri class 47 and Adhi Hardiansyah, class 48.
“ESL was established in 2005, which originated from the Department of Agricultural Social Economics, Fisheries Social Economics and Livestock Social Economics which are members of FEM IPB University. Food crises, agriculture, climate issues, and others are studied in the ESL study program and of course all have solutions and sustainability aspects. This is because ESL has a scientific mandate consisting of agricultural economics, resource economics and environmental economics,” said the Chairman of the ESL Department at IPB University, Dr Adi Hadianto.
Semi Kurniasih, an ESL alumnus who is currently a staff at the Ministry of National Development Planning (PPN) and is continuing her studies at Leiden University, the Netherlands with an LPDP scholarship explained why she chose ESL.
“Choosing a college major is a gateway to our future. ESL has taught me about sustainability and protecting resources. My field of work is very much related to ESL, namely preparing national development plans, especially in the fields of food and the environment, “she said.
Another alumni, Trifty Qurrota Aini, is the Country Manager at The University of The West of England (UWE), Bristol, UK. “Being an experienced journalist, I still bring topics related to ESL when presenting news on various TV stations. Any job can be related to ESL, both marine economics and environmental subjects,” she explained.
Meanwhile, Larasati Aliffia S Widyaputri, CEO of Lokasoka.com, a platform that provides gift and merchandise customization services for individual or corporate needs, helps build the country and advance the work of local MSMEs.
“ESL is a place to grow and develop, environmental issues and open up insights related to the environment and its impacts. The job prospects from ESL are very broad, it can be as a civil servant, business, NGO, lecturer, entertainer or entrepreneur,” said Laras.
Another alumnus, Adhi Hardiansyah, works as a Regional Operations Manager on the Gojek platform. Adhi conveyed the need for connections starting from college, such as participating in competitions, internships, internships or activities that can create connectivity and carry it out with full readiness.
The enthusiasm of the students was seen in the question and answer session, they asked various questions, one of which was about environmental issues and their impacts in accordance with what was learned in the ESL study program at IPB University. (Ang/Lp) (IAAS/Ard)
