World Class Professor from UPM Attends Fema IPB University

The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences (IKK), Faculty of Human Ecology (Fema) IPB University strengthened its steps in improving key performance indicators (KPIs) by inviting Prof Mohamad Fazli Sabri from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) as part of the Visiting Professors Programme.

Known for his international reputation, Prof Fazli from the Department of Resource Management and Consumer Studies, who is also the Dean of UPM’s Faculty of Human Ecology has produced many international publications with a Scopus H-Index of 17. Prof Fazli is also an adjunct professor at the Department of IKK IPB University.

The Visiting Professors Programme runs from 24 February 2024 to 2 March 2024. This programme was made possible through EQUITY Project 2023/2024 funding from the Directorate of Global Connectivity of IPB University.

Visiting professors are not just routine academic meetings, but also encapsulate various activities that enrich the scientific and practical scope of the department. Various activities were carried out ranging from fine tuning joint publication of articles to be submitted to reputable international journals, to peer review for the Journal of Consumer Sciences published in the Department of IKK IPB University.

Various workshops were also conducted, such as workshops on journal preparation towards Scopus, workshops on scopus publication tips for students, tips and strategies for publishing international scientific journal articles for lecturers. Not only that, through this programme, guest lecturer activities were also held in two courses: Consumer Behaviour and Family Financial Management to the discussion of preparations for the opening of the Consumer Science Study Program (Prodi) at the Department of IKK IPB University.

“As part of the effort to improve the achievement of IKU, the presence of Prof Mohamad Fazli Sabri is expected to have a positive impact on the development of the Department of IKK IPB University,” said Chairperson of the Department of IKK IPB University, Dr Tin Herawati.

This step, she said, was in line with IPB University’s commitment to improve the quality of higher education and research that contributes to science and technology at the national and international levels.

According to her, the programme led by Dr Megawati Simanjuntak is also very important to strengthen the cooperation between the Faculty of Human Ecology UPM and the Department of IKK IPB University. In addition, this programme is also beneficial for the development of not only the field of education, but also in research, increasing scopus publications, as well as providing insights in scopus journal management and study programme management.

Dr Megawati Simanjuntak, Vice Dean for Resources, Collaboration and Development of Fema IPB University said, “Various activities carried out through the Visiting Professor are expected to improve the IKU of the IKK Department and become important points in the accreditation assessment of study programmes as well as supporting institutional rankings at national and international levels.”

She hoped that in the following year many professors would visit Fema IPB University to share their knowledge and experience. “Especially Prof Fazli from FEM UPM, thank you for your knowledge and experience. Hopefully all the activities that have been designed from this Visiting Professor programme will provide benefits for lecturers, students of IPB University,” he concluded.
