LKST IPB University Continues to Improve Intellectual Property Protection
Institute of Science and Technology (LKST) or Science Techno Park (STP) IPB University organised the Internalisation of IPB University Intellectual Property Program in 2024, 14/3. This activity aims to increase understanding related to the Intellectual Property (IP) system in Indonesia and provide information on the IPB University Intellectual Property Programme that will be implemented by LKST in 2024. Participants of the activity are residents in the environment of IPB University, both lecturers, researchers, inventors, education staff and students.
Chairperson of LKST IPB University, Prof Erika Budiarti Laconi said, through this activity, it continues to support the improvement of intellectual property protection from all elements of IPB University. She also mentioned, this activity was held to facilitate IPB University residents to increase knowledge related to intellectual property both patents, copyrights, brands, protection of varieties, and so on.
“The number of IPB University intellectual property that is protected must be increased. However, intellectual property is the pride of all of us, because the results of the invention can be collaborated with partners and innovation development is carried out,” said Prof Erika.
Therefore, she continued, of course we must protect the invention first. Prof Erika said that intellectual property will henceforth be attached to IPB University innovators.
Deputy Head of IPB University’s Institute for Innovation Development and Technology Transfer, Dr Tri Prartono explained that intellectual property consists of seven types. The types of intellectual property are Patent, Copyright, Trademark, Industrial Design, Integrated Circuit Layout Design (DTLST), Trade Secret and Plant Variety Protection (PVP).
“IPB University continues to support programmes related to intellectual property, one of which is through strengthening institutional cooperation and preparing a replacement programme for student theses. This effort is expected to increase the acquisition of intellectual property of IPB University which has an impact on the performance of lecturers as well as the performance assessment of institutions and units,” said Dr Tri Prartono.
Meanwhile, Assistant for Management and Commercialisation of Intellectual Property of LKST IPB University, Dr Yuni Puji Hastuti provided information related to intellectual property programs that will be implemented in 2024.
“IPB University’s target in obtaining Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) every year continues to increase, so a good achievement strategy is needed, one of which is through the facilitation of IP registration in the Patent Incentive Programme and Non-Patent Incentive Programme organised by LKST IPB University,” she said.
In addition, said Yuni, LKST IPB University also facilitates training and technical assistance in the preparation of documents needed in the IP registration process to the Directorate General of Intellectual Property – Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham). (IAAS/RUM)
