IPB University held a Rose Flower Planting activity at the Agribusiness and Technology Park (ATP) Pasir Sarongge, Cianjur on 8/3. This activity was the result of the collaboration of the Directorate of Agromaritime Community Development (DPMA) of IPB University with Anwar Florist. In addition, this activity is also a series of the Six University Initiative Japan Indonesia-Service Learning Program (SUIJI-SLP) in 2024.

Director of Agromaritime Community Development, Dr Handian Purwawangsa said, the location plan in ATP will be used for research and social business. He also conveyed several plants such as sweet potatoes and papaya that have been successfully planted at the Pasir Sarongge ATP.

“The existence of this rose plant is new. In the future, these roses will be harvested and developed to become a rose picking tourist destination, as well as the construction of selfie spots for visitors at ATP Sarongge,” he said.

Vice Rector for Research, Innovation and Agromaritime Development of IPB University, Prof Ernan Rustiadi said that ATP Pasir Sarongge must be developed again with the presence of new plants such as roses. He said that ATP Pasir Sarongge needs a lot of agricultural cultivation development that has the potential for tourist visits.

“Hopefully in the future, cooperation like this must be continued, not only the downstreaming of innovations developed but there is an element of empowerment so that it must partner with farmers, so that IPB University can provide benefits to the community at large,” he said.

Anwar Florist’s Founder, Anwar, said that he had been growing roses personally with plasma types.

“I want to find plasma to get a type of rose that has good quality and quantity. The biggest marketing that is done is to Batam City for the purposes of praying to the Konghucu religion there,” he said.

Anwar continued, for the farthest shipment of roses is in Biak Numfor Regency. He said the price of roses in Indonesia is relatively stable with no increase or decrease.

“There is a high demand for roses from outside the city, especially red, white, orange, purple and pink roses. I am sure that planting roses at ATP Pasir Sarongge will produce good results because the contours of the area and the facilities provided are very adequate,” he explained. (dr/Lp) (IAAS/SNI)
