IPB University has an Applied Meteorology Study Programme, Graduates Can Become Atmospheric Scientists!

For those of you who have a passion in the field of climate and weather, it seems that you should look at this IPB University study programme: Applied Meteorology Study Programme.
Applied Meteorology is one of the undergraduate programmes at IPB University managed by the Department of Geophysics and Meteorology (GFM), Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) IPB University.
This study programme is suitable for those of you who want to dig deeper into the atmosphere and hydrosphere related to the natural symptoms of weather, climate and hydrological cycles. In its learning, this study programme covers the application of applied meteorological science for agricultural planning, natural resource management, disaster management, and environmental protection.
“In my opinion, this study programme has good prospects in the future, because the whole world is faced with the problem of climate change and needs climate experts to deal with problems in various sectors, such as in agriculture or even policy,” said Raihan Triwahyudi, an 8th semester student of Applied Meteorology Study Programme of IPB University.
Several alumni of IPB University’s Applied Meteorology programme have had successful careers nationally and internationally. Such as Sandro W Lubis (Atmospheric Scientist, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory), Benny Istanto (Climate Geographer-Data Analytics and Tools Unit, World Bank Headquarter Washington DC) and Yeli Sarvina (Researcher at the Centre for Climate and Atmospheric Research, National Research and Innovation Agency/BRIN). This cannot be separated from the provision of knowledge provided during lectures.
One of the advantages of IPB University’s Applied Meteorology Study Programme is its ability to produce graduates who have high competence in observation, analysis and utilisation of data related to climate and weather. They not only learn in class, but also go directly to the field to understand the dynamics of the atmosphere and hydrosphere.
Students will learn everything about the natural phenomena of the atmosphere and earth, including the interaction of biological, physical, chemical environmental components and the influence of human behaviour and its application to various aspects of life. Graduates of this study programme are expected to have competence in observing, analysing and utilising data and information, especially climate/weather.
Another advantage, the Applied Meteorology Study Programme of IPB University has received ‘Superior’ accreditation from the National Accreditation Board of Higher Education (BAN-PT). This excellent accreditation is proven by one of them consistently conducting research and international publications in the fields of climate / weather, water resources, and climate change adaptation and mitigation.
Career prospects
Career prospects for graduates of this programme are wide and varied. Government agencies such as the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (Lapan), BRIN and various ministries provide opportunities for graduates to be involved in the development and implementation of weather and climate-related policies.
In addition, national and international research institutions and companies in the plantation and agro-industry sectors are also potential career destinations for graduates of this study programme. (MHT/Rz) (IAAS/RSL)
