Faculty of Animal Sciences of IPB University Received a Visit from J-Biotech Malaysia
Faculty of Animal Sciences (Fapet) IPB University received a visit from Perbadanan Biotechnology and Biodiversiti Negeri Johor (J-Biotech), Malaysia, accompanied by the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). The visit was in order to discuss the initiation of Tri Partied cooperation that could be carried out between Fapet, J-Biotech and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). The delegation was received at the Meeting Room and Innovation Fapet, IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor, on 6/3.
Dato’ Haji Mustaffa Kamal Bin Dato’ Haji Samsudin, Chief Officer of J-Biotech said this visit was a follow-up to the previous visit and the purpose of this visit was to study the issue of dependence on domesticated food.
“We are opening the door to universities to contribute to food security by studying the formulation of ruminants and chickens so that dependence on imports can be resolved,” he said.
He explained that sorghum was rarely explored, so they wanted to formally connect this collaboration so that J-Biotech could bridge research and commercialisation.
Lecturer at the Department of Nutrition and Feed Technology (INTP) IPB University, Prof Panca Dewi Manu Hara Karti, explained that feed crops have been widely developed, besides that there is also technology for marginal land in collaboration with BRIN and the production is quite high.
“Almost the same as corn which is only harvested once, sorghum can be harvested four to five times. Another advantage, sorghum is also resistant to dry land, making it suitable for planting in eastern Indonesia which has a lot of dry land,” explained the Chief of the Feed and Pasture Plant Technology Division of the INTP Department.
Prof Panca also conveyed several things, namely about the technology of bio fertiliser product combinations, mitigation in drought conditions, formulations, Indo Mikoriza products, and so on.
The J-Biotech team who attended the visit included Dr Abd Rahim bin Harun as Plant Breeders, Community Base Tourism Expert, Prof Azlizam Bin Mohamad, and several other cattle breeders from Malaysia. This activity was also attended by BRIN Researcher, Dr Wulansih Dwi Astuti. (Femmy/Lp) (IAAS/RUM)
