Chairman of the Audit Committee of IPB University, Prof Agus Joko Pramono, officially handed over the leadership of the Audit Committee Communication Forum (FKKA) of State Universities with Legal Entities (PTNBH) to Prof Iwan Triyuwono. Prof Agus Joko Pramono, who also serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of IPB University, previously led FKKA PTNBH in the period 2022-2024.

In a leadership handover momentum marked by a high commitment to ethics and transparency, FKKA PTNBH at Universitas Brawijaya (8-9/3) emphasised its role as a pillar of academic integrity. Prof Iwan Triyuwono, as the new Chair of FKKA PTN-BH, has the responsibility to implement new strategies and recommendations that will lead the university to a higher level of accountability and minimise risk and fraud.

“This event was not only a leadership transition event, but also a strategic forum that produced a series of recommendations to improve the function and independence of audit committees. These recommendations include affirming the roles and responsibilities of audit committees not only as supervisors, but also as strategic partners in decision-making in higher education,” said Prof Agus Joko Pramono.

He explained that the recommendations emphasised the importance of establishing a strong foundation in fraud and risk prevention by prioritising integrity, fraud prevention and risk management to create a quality academic environment. This will require increasing audit committee members’ understanding and awareness of their strategic role in supporting transparency and accountability.

“As part of the larger strategy, universities are required to provide full support to the development of an inclusive and sustainable strategy. This includes providing adequate resources, training, access to relevant information and significant involvement in the strategic decision-making process,” he explained.

In addition, he continued, the recommendation also underscores the importance of effective reporting and accountability that is strengthened through reporting mechanisms that allow audit committees to communicate their findings and recommendations in a timely manner.

“In a broader context, FKKA PTNBH suggests the establishment of a risk committee or risk management unit separate from the audit committee to anticipate and respond to risks proactively. The duties of the risk committee will include developing risk management infrastructure, coordinating risk management processes and validating and aggregating risk registers to improve the effectiveness of risk management implementation,” he explained.

According to him, higher education as a pillar of nation-building requires continuous support from the state and government in creating smart, creative and highly ethical Indonesians. Therefore, the government is encouraged to pay special attention to improving the quality of higher education, including providing facilities and budget support for audit committees.

“Audit committees, with clearer roles, strengthened strategies and high accountability, are expected to be at the forefront of maintaining the integrity and credibility of higher education. By implementing these recommendations, universities are expected to build a solid foundation in preventing fraud and risk, and strengthening their reputation in the eyes of the public,” Prof Agus concluded.
