Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria and his team had the opportunity to visit Yanmar Main Office, Osaka, Japan. This academic visit was welcomed by Okubo Minoru, Executive Principal, Deputy General Manager of Innovation and Technology Division Yanmar.

IPB University and Yanmar have had many collaborations, which were officially marked by the establishment of the Yanmar – IPB Agricultural Research Institute (YARI) on October 17, 2014. YARI aims to provide solutions covering a broad spectrum of agricultural businesses, connecting the agricultural community with regional and national authorities. YARI’s presence at IPB University, among others, encourages IPB University’s role in agronomic, social and economic aspects, both in research and education in agriculture.

“IPB University is committed to contributing to mitigation and adaptation strategies to climate change on food and agricultural systems from the point of view of education and research,” said Prof Arif.

He also stated, “One way of preparing the younger generation to become actors in sustainable agriculture, IPB University has opened a Smart Agriculture Study Program at the Faculty of Agriculture.”

The establishment of the Smart Agriculture Study Program, said Prof Arif, is a strategic step for IPB University in responding to the development of the agricultural sector in the current era of the industrial revolution 4.0. This is also in line with Vision 2028, where IPB University is committed to educating quality human resources who master advanced technology to develop smart and precise agricultural production from upstream to downstream.

“In the future, Yanmar and IPB University can strengthen cooperation to support smart agriculture research in the form of the development and innovation of appropriate agricultural machinery in the agricultural ecosystem in Indonesia. On the same occasion, this visit also aims to strengthen Yanmar’s support for scholarships for undergraduate programs in agriculture,” he said. (*/Rz) (IAAS/ZQA)
