IPB University and University Sultan Azlan Shah discuss cooperation on OVOC and SPR programmes

IPB University and University Sultan Azlan Shah (USAS), Perak Malaysia held a discussion on the One Village One Company (OVOC) Programme and Sekolah Peternakan Rakyat (SPR). The USAS Malaysia delegation was received at the Academic Senate Conference Room, IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor on Thursday, 15/2.

Prof Iskandar Z Siregar, Vice Rector of IPB University for Global Connectivity, Collaboration and Alumni Relations in his speech said that this discussion activity was a follow-up to the Memorandum of understanding (MoU) that had been signed earlier.

“There are several programmes that will be collaborated including OVOC and SPR. Through this visit there is an action plan that will be carried out by IPB University and USAS in the near future,” said Prof Iskandar.

Prof Dato Ahamed Kameel bin Mydin Meera, Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs of USAS said that IPB University is a leading university in agriculture. “Through the signed cooperation we want to build long-term cooperation in terms of food safety with IPB University, especially through the OVOC and SPR programmes,” he said.

He revealed that USAS wants to develop the Agricultural Industry Laboratory (UVAIL) to become a comprehensive platform and centre for education and training of students in modern agriculture, in addition to research and agroedutourism.

“We want to utilise the 250 hectares of land and hope that through cooperation with IPB University there will be 9 sectors that can be built, starting from upstream to downstream,” said Prof Dato.

Meanwhile, Dr Handian Purwawangsa, Director of Agromaritime Community Development of IPB University explained about OVOC. He said that OVOC is the establishment of a rural business ecosystem based on local superior products through the empowerment of Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes), Cooperatives, and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) that are export-oriented.

“OVOC aims to realise community independence and improve the economic sector through improving the quality of human resources with the support of programmes such as training, mentoring and adoption of innovations,” he explained. (dh/Lp) (IAAS/RUM)
