Quality assurance in study programs (prodi) is an obligation for universities in ensuring the quality of quality education to students. In addition, the quality assurance process assists universities in meeting certain standards required to obtain national and international accreditation.

In response to the issuance of the Regulation of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbud Ristek) No 53 of 2023, the Quality Management Office (KMM) held a Quality Assurance Workshop on 17/1. This workshop invited IPB University assessors, both from the National Accreditation Board of Higher Education (BAN-PT) and the Independent Accreditation Agency (LAM).

IPB University’s Secretary of the Board, Prof Agus Purwito, highlighted the importance of this event as an effort to update crucial information related to IPB University’s Internal Quality Assurance System and the accreditation process. “The issuance of Ministry of Research and Technology Regulation No 53 of 2023 must be balanced with the sustainability of IPB’s strong Internal Quality Assurance System,” he said.

Prof Mulyono S. Baskoro, a resource person from BAN-PT, delivered material on Changes in Quality Assurance Instruments in Response to the Ministry of Research and Technology Regulation No. 53. He emphasized that every university must meet the National Higher Education Standards (SN DIKTI) in order to achieve national education goals.

“SN DIKTI involves educational output standards, namely graduate competency standards, educational process standards consisting of learning process standards, assessment standards and management standards, as well as educational input standards, namely lecturer and education staff standards, facilities and infrastructure standards, and financing standards,” said this Professor of IPB University.

Another resource person, Prof Dyah Iswantini, a representative of the Natural Science and Formal Science Self-Accreditation Institute (LAMSAMA) delivered material related to the Analysis of Changes in the Higher Education Quality Policy Landscape: LAM Perspective.

“With regulation number 53, the accreditation period for study programs either by BAN-PT or LAM has changed to eight years and is extended through an automation mechanism. The automation mechanism will be determined by BAN-PT and LAM respectively. This mechanism needs to be a concern for study programs so that they are not complacent so that they miss the accreditation period,” said the figure who also serves as Chair of the Chemistry Department of IPB University.

In this activity, the assessors agreed that quality assurance of higher education is a very crucial thing in maintaining the quality of the educational process, especially at IPB University. The issuance of the Ministry of Research and Technology Regulation No. 53 of 2023 should be addressed as a positive step in changing the landscape of higher education quality assurance. (*/Lp) (NYS)
