Department of Landscape Architecture at IPB University Organizes i-Tree Eco Training in Srengseng City Forest, Jakarta
A revolutionary step in environmental conservation took place today as the Srengseng City Forest hosted the first collaborative i-Tree Eco training in Indonesia, an initiative by IPB University in collaboration with the United States Forest Services (USFS). The inventory training was welcomed by Arie Fajar Septa, Chief of the Section for Conservation of Forest Resources and Watersheds (DAS), Jakarta City Parks and City Forest Agency.
The inventory involves field data collection, which is the heart of this collaboration. The collected data is not just numbers but serves as the foundation for generating critical landscape service values such as oxygen production, carbon dioxide absorption, pollution absorption, and water conservation. This is seen as a form of optimal urban forest landscape management.
Arie Fajar Septa acknowledged IPB University’s dedication and stated that this collaboration marks a significant leap in efforts for the preservation and management of forest landscape, particularly in city forests that play a key role in maintaining the balance of urban ecosystems.
“The history of this collaboration didn’t start today; previously, the i-Tree team from the Landscape Architecture Department at IPB University and Rimbun Lanskap conducted inventory missions by mapping dozens of strategic plots in the Srengseng City Forest. These sample plots are now permanently marked, paving the way for more efficient monitoring in the future,” said Arie.
He further emphasized that these innovative steps not only create a positive impact on the Srengseng City Forest but also serve as an inspirational milestone in global environmental conservation.
“With a focus on the quality of landscape services, this collaboration brings hope to transform the paradigm of environmental conservation into something more tangible and measurable. Srengseng City Forest, together with IPB University, has become a stage for the transformation towards a greener and more sustainable future,” Arie added.
i-Tree Youth Community is a youth community that plays a frontline role in calculating and measuring landscape service values. This community is not just a symbol of care but a statement that the future of the environment is in the hands of the youth. (*/Lp) (IAAS/Hap)
