Utilizing goat manure and household waste as compost for planting media, students of IPB University’s Innovation Real-Thematic Work Lecture (KKN-T) together with children of the Learning Group (Pokjar) of the Al-Hijrah Community Learning Activity Center (PKBM) conducted seed sowing and planting of seedlings of several superior varieties from IPB University.

The activity was held on Wednesday, 17/1, in Jatisari Village, Bojongpicung District, Cianjur Regency. The activity consisted of the socialization of plastic waste sorting and practical activities for sowing tomato seeds by using used egg trays as seeding containers. Before seeding, a planting medium is made using compost made from animal manure and organic waste.

Wandi, as the principal of PKBM Al-Hijrah, advised, “Waste is not just waste, but waste also has a very high selling value if it is utilized properly.” he said.

“The use of waste as compost and plant pots teaches us that in every waste, there is a new opportunity. Waste is not the end, but the beginning of a sustainable life cycle,” he continued.

He said that by turning waste into compost, it will make a positive contribution to the soil and environment. As a plant pot, waste becomes a container for new life to grow.

One of the representatives of KKN-T students, Mariska Halmaidah Sa’adilla Putri, hopes that the plant seeds that have been planted can provide benefits and blessings for all village communities. “This activity can also increase the awareness of PKBM Al-Hijrah students about the importance of sorting waste and keeping the environment clean,” said Mariska.

“By involving PKBM Al-Hijrah students, it will have a positive impact on community empowerment and environmental awareness. Collaboration between students and PKBM Al-Hijrah students is the first step towards a green and sustainable village,” he said. (*/Lp) (IAAS/ZQA)
