Participating in IISMA Programme, IPB University Student Can Study in Colorado
IPB University’s Marine Science and Technology (ITK) student, Safina Putri Afrilia, has joined a student exchange programme at the University of Colorado Boulder. Through the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) organised by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, Safina had the opportunity to study abroad for one semester.
Safina chose diverse courses, exploring various aspects such as Global Change: An Earth Science Perspective, Media and Popular Culture, Environment, Media and Society, including the Becoming a Leader course. Safina was very impressed with her academic experience while studying at the University of Colorado Boulder.
“I gained a lot of valuable experience while studying here, both in terms of academics and non-academics. Experiencing a culture that is very different from my home country opened my eyes to adaptability in various situations and cultures,” said Safina.
During this exchange programme, Safina also managed to expand her network and meet a variety of inspiring individuals. She shares her belief that the study abroad experience has taught her valuable lessons about cultural diversity and global connections that are important for her future.
Safina revealed that she has clear plans for her future. She will complete her undergraduate degree and plans to pursue a master’s degree at her dream university abroad. Not only that, Safina also hopes that more students will be able to explore great opportunities like IISMA.
“I feel that this student exchange has given me more than just academic knowledge. I hope more IPB University students and ITK students in particular can take advantage of the opportunity to grow and learn,” she added.
Chair of the Department of Marine Science and Technology, Dr Syamsul Bahri Agus, greatly appreciated Safina’s dedication in preparing to take part in this IISMA programme. He also hopes that Safina’s participation can inspire other students to pursue similar opportunities in the future.
“We sincerely hope that Safina’s experience will encourage other students to join various student exchange programmes that can enrich their academic and personal experiences,” he concluded. (RAT/Lp) (IAAS/RUM)
