The K2020 curriculum at IPB University accommodates learning for students to take a minimum of 20 semester credit units (SKS) off-campus. In the Conservation of Forest Resources and Ecotourism Program (KSHE) at the Faculty of Forestry and Environment (Fahutan), the implementation of K2020 takes the form of the Collaborative Learning Transformation on Wildlife Management and Ecosystem Services program.

Students can participate in Field Conservation Practices (PLKA) and Group Internships at various partner institutions through the funding scheme of the Campus Merdeka Competition Program (PKKM) in 2023.

PLKA is a combination of Practices in Wildlife Management (KSH 1404) and Practices in Conservation Area Management, Environmental Services, and Ecotourism (KSH 1405). Group Internship (IPB303) is an enrichment and expansion of students’ competencies to gain experiential learning in the business-industry world (DUDI).

As part of disseminating the results of PLKA activities, the KSHE Department at IPB University organized a Sharing Session on Collaborative Learning in Wildlife Management and Forest Environmental Services. The event took place at the Andi Hakim Nasution Auditorium, IPB Dramaga Campus (11/25).

Dr Nyoto Santoso, the Chairman of the KSHE Department at IPB University, stated that the PKKM program involves Ujung Kulon National Park Office (TNUK), Mount Gede Pangrango National Park Office (TNGGP), Halimun Salak Mountain National Park Office (TNGHS), and 18 internship partner institutions.

“This series of events is an achievement of performance and processes packaged in Campus Merdeka. From start to finish, I think this is comprehensive and good work. For students, hopefully, it can be a platform for improving competencies that are beneficial for the future,” he said.

“We also appreciate all parties involved in this activity in the effort to improve students’ competencies and implement academic knowledge in the future,” he added.

Prof Naresworo Nugroho, the Dean of Fahutan at IPB University, fully supports the implementation of the independent curriculum in the KSHE Program. He hopes that this can be continuously improved.

Dr Rachmad Hermawan, one of the lecturers at the KSHE Department at IPB University, moderated a sharing session consisting of presentations by PLKA student representatives from three national parks.

“The topics and data results closely related to KSHE learning, such as the potential of wildlife, plants, carbon storage, tourism potential, environmental services, and water environmental services, were the main highlights in the PLKA presentation,” he explained.

The internship partners involved include PT Santamonica Indonesia, PT Fontis Aquam Vivam, Yayasan Puter Indonesia, Bumi Paseban Alami, Yayasan Inisiasi Alam Rehabilitasi Indonesia, PT CNN Bogor Treetop Zipline Adventure, KLHK Directorate of Conservation Area Planning, Directorate of Biodiversity Species and Genetics Conservation, Directorate of Environmental Services Utilization in Conservation Areas, Directorate of Conservation Area Management, Directorate of Essential Management and Recovery, PT Palawi Risorsis, BBKSDA West Java Pangandaran TWA, Little Fireface Project, PT Equality Indonesia, PT Alam Bukit Tigapuluh, Aksioma Amerta Bumi, PT Star Energy Geothermal Salak, and WCS-IP Lampung.
