Efforts to increase the capacity of human resources in managing tourism villages in Bogor City require collaboration with many parties. This was done by a team of lecturers from the Vocational School (SV) of IPB University who played a role in increasing the knowledge and skills of dozens of people from the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis).

The activities of the lecturers with the theme of strengthening the capacity of human resources in the management of the Bogor City tourism village were carried out twice a meeting at the Ecotourism Studio of the School of Vocational Studies of IPB University. This theme is relevant to efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely the 4th and 11th SDGs.

Dozens of participants from seven Tourism Awareness Groups (Pokdarwis) at the first meeting held on 14 November 2023, received material on social media optimisation through the use of media buying delivered by Dr Leonard Dharmawan who is a lecturer in the digital communication and media study programme of SV IPB University.

“The use of digital media in promoting tourist destinations is more effective and broad in reaching consumers, saving costs for promotion, as a good liaison with consumers and delivering information faster,” explained Leo.

While the second material regarding the preparation of the Calender of Event was delivered by a lecturer in the Ecotourism study programme at SV IPB University, Kania Sofiantina Rahayu. “Events need to be designed properly and regularly to be held regularly in tourist villages by collaborating to increase tourist visits to tourist villages,” said Kania.

The second meeting participants from Pokdarwis received hospitality material in tourism, all participants took turns practising hospitality with different cases. “Hospitality is important because it is related to service and can increase satisfaction, especially in tourist destinations,” explained Ira Resmayasari, Lecturer of Ecotourism Study Programme SV IPB University.

The head of the lecturer programme, Rini Untari, said that the potential of the seven tourism villages is very large and must be supported by human resources who understand the direction of the development of the region in the future.

“Therefore, it is expected that strengthening the capacity of human resources, especially Pokdarwis, can increase the knowledge and skills of managers,” Rini explained.

Not only taught to sell destinations on social media, at the first meeting participants were tasked with making video reels uploaded on Instagram regarding accessibility to seven existing tourist villages namely Mulyaharja Tourism Village (AEWO and Saung Eling), Labirin Village, Pulo Geulis Village, Rancamaya Durian Village, Cibuluh Batik Village, Situ Gede Tourism Village and Perca Tourism Village).
