SKHB IPB University Organises Strengthening of Learning Materials for Prospective Veterinarians
School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (SKHB) IPB University organised the strengthening of learning materials for students, Monday (27/11). The activity took place in the SKHB Transformation Hall, IPB Dramaga Campus.
The training, themed ‘Control and Management of Livestock Disease Outbreaks in the Indonesian Cattle Farming Sector’, was conducted in collaboration with the Indonesian Veterinary Faculty Association (AFKHI) and the Indonesia Australia Red Meat and Cattle Partnership (IARMCP).
This activity was divided into two waves, which were held on 27/11 and 14/12, with a total of 91 participants from the Veterinary Professional Education programme (PPDH) SKHB IPB University period I in 2022/2023. Wave 1 participants totalled 45 students.
Dean of SKHB IPB University, Dr Amrozi in his speech said, “This activity is none other than to provide provisions to PPDH IPB University students as prospective veterinarians to be ready in controlling and overcoming livestock disease outbreaks, especially in the cattle farming sector.”
The first agenda of the training was filled with a presentation on the introduction of epidemic investigation and its stages delivered by Dr Etih Sudarnika, lecturer of SKHNB IPB Univresity. The training activities were also filled with discussions, practices, making assignments and group presentations facilitated by Dr drh Chaerul Basri as the chief executive and facilitator.
Practices carried out include participatory epidemiology (PE) and preparation of epidemic curves, timelines, mapping with the concept of simulation and case studies as an illustration of efforts to deal with livestock disease outbreaks through investigation and countermeasures.
“Competence in investigating and controlling outbreaks is needed for students to become frontline veterinarians. Students must know how to identify each disease case. Starting from the beginning of the case, the spread to handling and countermeasures in the affected area,” Dr Chaerul explained. (AP/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
