SKHB IPB University Organises Outbreak Investigation Training for Frontline Animal Health Workers in Banten Province
The School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (SKHB) IPB University once again held an outbreak investigation training for frontline animal health workers. The training this time was aimed at animal health workers in Banten Province which was held for 4 days, from Tuesday to Friday (5-8/12) at Papyrus Tropical Hotel, Bogor, West Java.
This activity was organised in collaboration with the Indonesian Veterinary Faculty Association (AFKHI) and the Indonesia Australia Red Meat and Cattle Partnership (IARMCP).
The training was attended by 25 veterinarians and 5 paramedics from various regional and private agencies. Namely the Agriculture Office from Pandeglang Regency, Tangerang Regency and City, Lebak Regency, Serang Regency and City, Cilegon Class II Agricultural Quarantine Centre, PT Sumberdaya Multikarya, and PT Tanjung Unggul Mandiri.
Dean of SKHB IPB University, Dr drh Amrozi was present to open the training activities on the first day. “We hope that this training will be a provision for future preparation for frontline animal health workers in preventing and overcoming disease outbreaks in livestock which of course have a major impact on humans,” he said.
The opening ceremony was also attended by the Head of the Animal Health and Veterinary Public Health Division of the Banten Provincial Agriculture Office, drh Ari Mardiana, IARMCP representative Petrus Widyantoro and AFKHI Chairman Prof drh Teguh Budipitojo online via Zoom Meeting.
“We are very grateful to the participants who took part in this training. Hopefully what is obtained from this training can immediately be applied in their respective agencies as an effort to prevent and control outbreaks in the future,” said Prof Teguh.
The first agenda of the training was filled with the delivery of material on the Basics of Epidemiology and the Causality Triangle by Dr drh Chaerul Basri as one of the facilitators of this training. Other facilitators included Dr Novia Herwandi, MPH as the national facilitator, Dr Pranyata T Waskita, MBiotek from Padjadjaran University and Dr Herwin Pisestyani from SKHB IPB University.
In addition to the presentation of material, the training was also filled with discussions, making assignments, presentations and direct practice in groups. Field practice aims to investigate the outbreak directly to farmers in the Dairy Cattle Business Area (Kunak), Cibungbulang District, Bogor Regency.
Investigation activities were carried out using interview techniques with six farmers and direct observation to the barn. The data from the investigation was then made into an animal disease outbreak report.
The activity was closed by a presentation on the Flow of Outbreak Reporting, Data and National Animal Health Information System (iSIKHNAS), delivered by drh Syafrison Idris, MSi as the Animal Disease Observation Coordinator at the Directorate of Animal Health, Ministry of Agriculture.
