The Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria, sent students from the Thematic Real Work Lecture (KKN-T) to several villages in the districts/cities of Bogor and Cianjur. The release of KKN-T Innovation students was held at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK), IPB Dramaga Campus, on Monday (18/12).

In his speech, the Rector said that Innovation KKN-T was maintained as a program to train students to have skills that were not taught in class. By going out into the community, by communicating with the community.

“This is an extraordinary experience being in the community, how we build cooperation in the community, solving complex problems in the community,” he said.

The Rector further said that the KKN-T Innovation program aims to build experience-based knowledge.

“Just having intelligence is not enough, machines will replace intelligence. “But the KKN-T Innovation program is a way of exercising wisdom so that there is a balance between the brain and the heart, training the ability to inspire, move other people to think and act,” said Prof Arif.

He said that the presence of IPB University students in villages would be able to inspire village children to strengthen their mindset so that they have dreams and hopes of becoming great people. In this way, it will definitely have an impact on breaking the inequality that has occurred so far.

“I’m sure you can inspire village children,” he added.

IPB University’s Director of Agromaritime Community Development, Dr Handian Purwawangsa said, that in this second period, students will start KKN-T Innovation from December to January 2024 totaling 401 students. They will implement Innovation KKN-T in Cianjur Regency, Bogor Regency, and City in 40 villages, and 6 sub-districts.

Dr Handian also described his personal experience when he was a young lecturer carrying out community service in the Jasinga and Leuwiliang areas, Bogor Regency. He saw that in these two areas, there was a lot of unused land. Even after calculating there are around 13,000 hectares of unused land. On the one hand, many people are smallholders, on the other hand, much of the land is not utilized.

Based on this problem, he prepared various programs, one of which was to utilize unused land by planting coffee and avocados. Now the program continues for 10 years. He hopes that this experience can inspire students.

Meanwhile, the Director of Student Affairs at IPB University, Dr Ujang Suwarna, conveyed the importance that students can gain from the Innovation KKN-T program. In terms of curriculum, Innovation KKN-T weights 4-semester credit units (SKS), equivalent to 180 hours, namely 45 hours of training and 135 hours in the field. (*/Rz) (IAAS/Res)
