IPB University successfully implemented the 2023 Independent Entrepreneurship (WMK) for the second time. This year, the entrepreneurship program from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) was attended by 367 students from 32 universities in 16 provinces in Indonesia.

IPB University’s Director of Student Affairs, Dr Ujang Suwarna, explained that WMK is a program that aims to encourage Indonesian students to have an entrepreneurial mindset to be able to develop the products they make.

“This year WMK is trying to develop programs through three stages, namely pre immersion, immersion and post immersion,” said Dr Ujang at the 2023 WMK closing ceremony which was held at Graha Widya Wisuda, IPB Darmaga Campus, 2/12.

Dr Ujang explained, in the pre-immersion stage WMK participants received five weeks of training regarding building mindsets and ideas for developing business.

“Then in the second stage or immersion, for 10 weeks participants will take part in an on board mentorship program involving 45 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). “Hopefully this stage will give you experience, because you will be directly mentored by MSME practitioners,” he explained.

Dr Ujang continued, the post immersion stage is a stage that focuses on the market validation process and feasibility study, so that students have the ability to start a business. This stage is packaged in the Student Entrepreneur Expo which is combined with the internal entrepreneurship program at IPB University.

The 2023 WMK program was officially closed by the Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria. In his speech, Prof Arif mentioned that Indonesia’s future will be determined by the number and quality of its entrepreneurs. He said that the size of this entrepreneur is important because it plays a role as an economic driver.

“In economic movements, what is needed is an entrepreneurial character. “I am sure that all students here have strong entrepreneurship, so they will be successful in creating many opportunities and jobs,” he said.

Prof Arif advised, if people can create opportunities then that person will be a winner. “Hopefully we will be winners because this program is important for improving our quality to become great entrepreneurs,” hoped Prof Arif.

The Ministry of Education and Research and Technology’s WMK Implementation Team, Bryan Erfanda Putra, appreciated IPB University for holding the 2023 WMK program successfully. He said IPB University was consistent in providing good lessons to WMK participating students.

“There are definitely many lessons that can be learned from this WMK program. “I hope our struggle does not end here, we must continue to monitor the process of student success in the field of entrepreneurship,” he said. (MHT/Lp) (IAAS/Res)
