IPB University’s Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) Partners with PT Reasuransi Nasional Indonesia for a Guest Lecture and Signing of MOU
Albert Rotinsulu, the CEO of PT Reasuransi Nasional Indonesia (Nasional Re), delivered a guest lecture to students at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA). The guest lecture, themed ‘Nasional Re Goes To Campus: Insurance and Reinsurance and Career Opportunities,’ took place at the FMIPA Auditorium on the Dramaga Campus of IPB University, Bogor, 5/12.
The guest lecture coincided with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) related to internship programs, scholarships, and the hosting of guest lecturers. The signing was conducted by the Dean of FMIPA, Dr Berry Juliandi, and Albert Rotinsulu.
Dr Berry Juliandi expressed that through this collaboration, FMIPA, especially the Department of Mathematics, aims to establish closer ties with companies, including Reinsurance. This collaboration not only provides students with additional insights into the field of insurance but also enhances their knowledge of actuarial science.
“The discipline of mathematics is essential because any discipline requires mathematical competence. Through collaboration, we hope to have more graduates actively working as actuaries,” he said.
During his guest lecture, Albert Rotinsulu explained the definition of reinsurance business based on the Republic of Indonesia Law No. 4 of 2023 concerning the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector.
“Based on Law No. 4 of 2023 concerning the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector, reinsurance is a service business for the repeated insurance of risks faced by insurance companies, guarantee companies, or other reinsurance companies,” he said.
Meanwhile, Tagor Uktoseja, the Director of Finance and HR at Reasuransi Nasional, discussed the need for competent Human Resources (HR) in the actuarial field.
“Data from the Ministry of Education and Culture and Research and Technology state that every year there are 1.8 million new graduates from higher education. Meanwhile, data from the Central Statistics Agency records more than 59 thousand employment needs. There is a mismatch between supply and demand, so it is important for students to have the skills,” said Tagor.
Tagor mentioned that the collaboration aims to support the Financial Services Authority (OJK) program, which has a commitment to achieve 1000 actuaries nationally. The collaboration is expected to provide education to help students better understand the insurance industry. (dh/Lp) (IAAS/Hap)
