IPB University Professor Gives Blue Economy Input in the Draft RPJPD for the Bangka Belitung Islands
As part of the collaboration between the Bangka Belitung Islands Provincial Government (Pemprov Babel) and IPB University, the Babel Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) held a Regional Long Term Development Plan Seminar (RPJPD) 2025-2045 in Pangkal Pinang, (20/11).
The seminar was held in two main sessions, namely (1) Agromaritime Development of the Bangka Belitung Islands; and (2) Development of Human Resources and Culture of the Bangka Belitung Islands.
In this seminar, Prof Luky Adrianto, Professor of the Department of Aquatic Resources Management (MSP), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) IPB University conveyed ideas related to the framework for developing archipelagic regions using a blue economy approach.
Prof Luky, who is also the Chairman of the International Maritime, Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (i-MAR) IPB University, highlighted the importance of understanding the operational definition of the blue economy.
“The blue economy is part of the economic transformation which has become one of the main agendas of the 8 main agendas of the 2025-2045 national long-term development plan (RPJPN). This RPJPN is based on the vision of Indonesia as a Sovereign, Just and Sustainable Archipelago,” he explained.
Apart from that, the Main Advisor for the Center for Coastal and Marine Resources Studies (PKSPL) IPB University also provided insights regarding the challenges and opportunities for blue economic development in Babel Province as part of the draft regional long-term development plan (RPJPD).
In this Agromaritime seminar session, the Babel Provincial Government also invited two other IPB University Professors. Namely Prof Ernan Rustiadi, Professor of Regional Management and Prof Luki Abdullah, Professor of Animal Husbandry Nutrition.
The two IPB University Professors each provided input regarding the prospects and challenges of developing the island region as well as opportunities for developing the livestock sector in Babel Province.
“This activity is part of the implementation of the IPB University MSP Department’s flagship program in the field of blue transformation through strengthening the science of blue carbon ecosystems and the blue economy,” said the Chairman of the IPB University MSP Department, Prof Hefni Effendi.
