IPB University and University of Putra Malaysia Collaborate to Discuss Advanced Technology for Halal Industry

Strengthening research studies in the halal sector continues to be carried out by IPB University. Therefore, the Institute of International Research on Advanced Technology and Halal Science Center (HSC) IPB University held a joint lecture with University of Putra Malaysia (UPM) with the theme ‘Advanced Technology for Halal Industry’, Thursday, (14/12).

In this activity, participants talked about research with researchers and halal industry experts from IPB University and UPM to discuss various topics related to the halal industry. Among them are blockchain in the halal industry, halal industry development, halal product development, halal certification, halal industry, halal slaughter and other related issues. As well as encouraging students, academics, practitioners and the public to share broader insights related to the application of advanced technology for the halal industry.

Prof Ernan Rustiadi, Vice Rector of IPB University for Research, Innovation and Agromaritime in his speech appreciated this collaboration to strengthen research in the halal field. Moreover, IPB University and UPM have a background focus on agriculture and the halal industry.

“Research in the field of food cannot be separated from cooperation with various universities, both at home and abroad and one of the biggest collaborations is with UPM,” he explained.

Starting in 2024, he continued, IPB University plans to build a special five-story Halal Center building to strengthen the Science Techno Park and halal studies.

Prof Yus Aniza Yusof, Deputy Director of Halal Research Product Institute UPM welcomed the collaboration. “We hope that this activity will have appropriate outcomes to gather ideas and experiences related to the halal industry and to expand research cooperation in the halal industry globally,” he said.

Prof Anas Miftah Fauzi, Chair of the Institute of International Research on Advanced Technology IPB University concluded that halal research is very important to strengthen the position of the halal industry in global market competition. Especially the aspects of food safety and the safety of the halal status of products for Muslim and non-Muslim consumers.

“Advanced technology in shaping a stronger halal sector is also a necessity because the halal market will still face a massive increase in demand for halal products and this (technology) can still be developed continuously,” he said. (MW/Rz) (IAAS/ANF)
