IPB Innovation Service Lecturers Introduce Innovative Aquatic Products, One of which is Seaweed Cosmetics

The IPB University Innovation Service Lecturer Program is a momentum for lecturers to contribute to society. Through this program, Prof Nurjanah and her team introduced various innovations from IPB University’s waters, especially seaweed products.

IPB University’s innovations were introduced in the ‘Socialization of Human Resources (HR) Improvement through the Application of Innovations and Sustainable Fishery Product Processing Technology’ at Sanggar Kegiatan Belajar (SKB) 17 Jakarta, Tuesday (5/12).

The socialization was conducted by Prof Nurjanah together with a team from the Department of Aquatic Products Technology (THP), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK), namely Prof Tati Nurhayati, Dr Agoes Mardiono Jacoeb, Dr Asadatun Abdullah, Dr Roni Nugraha, Prof Mala Nurilmala and Anggrei Viona Seulalae, SPi, MSi.

“The IPB University Innovation Service Lecturer Program focuses on explanations related to the characteristics of aquatic raw materials and innovation of aquatic products,” said Prof Nurjanah.

Not only that, the socialization also explained the utilization of fishery potential and its waste to increase added value by Prof Tati Nurhayati and the utilization of aquatic flora by Dr Agoes Mardiono Jacoeb. Dr Asadatun Abdullah also conveyed the importance of raw material authentication for fishery product labels.

“This activity aims to provide knowledge and improve human resources in utilizing fishery resources through the innovations provided,” said Prof Nurjanah.

The activity was attended by package C students and tutors at SKB 17. The event was opened by SKB 17 Principal, Tantri Agustien. SKB 17 is located in two places, namely Tanjung Priok and Penjaringan, North Jakarta which includes coastal areas. The participants also gave full support to the activities of this IPB University Innovation Service Lecturer.

On that occasion, participants also received merchandise in the form of Prof Nurjanah and team innovation products. The innovations include Wedlyn (cosmetic products from seaweed), Garam Gamy (low sodium salt from seaweed), SEAKO (latte drink with seaweed salt), SEABID (body scrub from seaweed salt residue).

“These products have been produced by our fostered startups, namely PT Rumah Rumput Laut and PT Akuanutrindo Sukses Makmur (Gamy Bahari),” said Prof. Nurjanah.

In addition, innovative products from THP IPB University students were also given, namely Seacolek (chili sauce with raw materials from aquatic products and seaweed salt), Seabumbu (flavoring made from spirulina and petek fish) and Heroic bread (bread with the addition of smoked fish).
